What is the difference between ISO 15118 2 and 15118 20 ?

ISO 15118-20 is an extension of the original ISO 15118 standard, which aims to define a communication protocol for electric vehicles (EVs) and charging stations. This new version of ISO 15118 introduces advanced features such as Plug & Charge, wireless communication, and improved security mechanisms.

ISO 15118-20 distinguishes between two main versions: ISO 15118 and ISO 15118-20. ISO 15118 is focused on defining the communication interface requirements for EVs, while ISO 15118-20 deals with the physical layer and data link layer requirements necessary for implementing ISO 15118.

In summary, ISO 15118-20 is an essential standard for EV charging infrastructure, providing the technical specifications needed to implement advanced features such as wireless charging and improved security mechanisms. By adhering to this standard, automakers and charging infrastructure providers can ensure a consistent and user-friendly experience for EV owners, facilitating widespread adoption and integration of electric vehicles into our transportation system.
